Spring has “sprung” closely followed by summer here at Holly Lodge and the unbelievable hot spell with record breaking temperatures here in Swaffham.
Well, our wonderful news is the announcement of the birth of our second grandchild! Ellis George Walker bounced into this world on 16th March 2022, he and his parents are extremely well!
We also have a family wedding to attend, Daniel our oldest son is getting married to the lovely Milly.
We had our first wedding guests of the season too. Koen and Orlagh, a charming couple were great fun and a pleasure to host here at Holly Lodge.
We moved to Holly Lodge 7 years ago, (where does the time go!) We planted a juvenile Palm tree when we arrived, shown on the left; it seems to like the positioning in the garden and appears to be thriving.
It has been an incredibly busy year for the bed and breakfast; we have met and hosted people from all over the world as far afield as Belgium, Abu Dhabi, Virginia Beach (USA) and Scotland!
We are delighted to have been re-awarded our airbnb Superhost status in July.
We had a major incident a couple of weeks ago. Sadly, the end wall of a historic house on London Street, (A1065) collapsed, prompting the Police to close the road and implement various diversions and a temporary ban on HGV’s passing through our historic Norfolk market town.
London Street, the main road through the town, became the A1065 when horses and carts were still in use and ancient Norfolk settlements, including Swaffham, were never designed for HGVs. However, logic suggests that an increase in traffic is a sign of the times and a fact of life for many historic towns and villages.
For over thirty years there has been speculation that Swaffham will have a by-pass, (North to South) removing the HGV’s from the town centre. Holly Lodge is set back from the road and shielded by our ancient holly trees and a laurel hedge. However, even with effective double-glazing, traffic noise can be a nuisance, particularly if it is raining!
The recent events in London Street have prompted the residents of Swaffham to create SSAG (the Swaffham Safety Action Group) and with the support of the Town Council, the group aims to re-ignite the debate and dust-down previous plans for creating a north to south by-pass. We will keep you posted.
